Retractable PVC membrane, integrated LED spotlights and frameless glass panels
In the yard beside the house, in front of a new aerated concrete block wall, we are installing a Velarium Wave retractable pergola with a PVC membrane and integrated LED spotlights, enclosed on its open sides with frameless glass panels. The work is in progress: the photos show the structure, roof and enclosure already in place, before the walls and floor are finished.
A generous yard beside the house, bounded by a new aerated concrete block wall. Without a roof it could not be used in the rain, while a fixed roof would have left it permanently in shade. The solution had to do both: cover the space completely and retract completely.
We chose the Velarium Wave system: a PVC membrane that extends under motor power over the whole area and gathers in folds towards the end of the structure, leaving the sky open. The mechanism and motor are built into the end housing, and the LED spotlights are mounted directly in the membrane profiles.
Along the open sides we fitted toughened glass panels with no vertical profiles between them. The panels slide and stack at one end, leaving the yard fully open; closed, they turn the pergola into a space sheltered from the wind.
The structure, membrane, lighting and glass panels are installed. The photos show the work before the walls and floor are finished and without furniture — exactly as a live site looks.

The posts and perimeter beams go in first, followed by the end housing that holds the membrane shaft and motor. The membrane stays gathered on its profiles until the structure is aligned and fixed.
Once extended, the PVC membrane forms the waves that give the Wave system its name, carried on aluminium cross profiles. The LED spotlights are mounted in those same profiles.
The toughened glass panels are fitted one by one into the tracks on the bottom and top beams. With no vertical profiles between them, the enclosure is almost invisible, and the panels stack at one end when the yard needs to be fully open.
